To 24 Years of Not Being Self-Made.
I am so Happy to be 24 Years!
Kind a journey it has been,
I have just been reflecting this interesting journey to this moment. Yes I was just thinking and couldn't comprehend how one can be said to be self-made.
Personally I cannot term myself as such and I never ever will I be self-made in any area of my life.
I am a product of collective effort - ranging from family, relatives, friends, mentors and the list goes on and on, God in His wisdom saw it fit to use them to bring me this far and I am so grateful to this community of people and more so to God.
The reason why I hate the word self-made is first that it out-rightly fails to give credit to where it is due.
long ago before I was conscious of my existence a mighty God aah not just that an Almighty God knew me even before I was formed in my mothers womb and He fearfully and wonderfully knit me together in the secret place.... And He ordained all my days and wrote them in His book before any of them came to be. And in Him I move and have my being.... this far!
He rightfully deserves the honor, glory and credit for this far for every year of my life, for every, month, for every day and for every single moment.
The best I can do is to re-dedicate this life to Him, it is only fair that way since without Him I could never ever have been and with all that I am and with all that I have I than Him for this far....
As I keenly reflect on His doing upon my life the following 5 reasons or doings upon my life makes me want to please Him even the more. These reasons cannot be termed or measured in the scale of material things but they are so precious beyond any material thing that He has or will bless me with. there are many more other reasons but so as not to tire someone who may care to read I will keep the at 5, and here I go.
1. I recall with much joy when I surrendered to him as the Lord and savior of my life, yes when He made me realize that I am a sinner and that I need Jesus as my savior. I then felt a huge burden of my sins and my sin nature fell off my shoulders and there I beheld the beauty of freedom, the wondrous beauty of being forgiven. and the turning point was marked- I had just found a great treasure- the finest pearl of great value.- the amazing journey of faith with Him just started. The assurance that He will never leave me nor forsake me and that nothing can separate me from His love was just so sweet.
2. He also gave me what I needed most.... Identity, a sense of significance and a hope without and end. On identity before I knew Him in a personal dimension I couldn't clearly define myself- who I was, where i was from, whose I was, where I was going and such... confusion regarding my identity abound. I could try to define myself but the definition was just vague i was left wondering whether the 'object' I had defined was me....... Like seriously I know you are wondering, yes but now the story is different, my identity is intact in Him. Back then I could write a 5 page funny story of who I was and it was not even close to being a satisfying definition. The story is different today , ask me and ask me again who I am ... less than seven words are more than enough to describe me 10 seconds are enough to say all that I am and feel that it is a more than enough for me and so satisfying.... and that definition goes to something like this "I am a believer in Jesus" enough or period the rest can be forgotten and i treasure this definition more than anything else there is some joy that comes with it, a feeling of being loved and cared for I can continue and continue.. its satisfying, fulfilling, sparkling and just sufficient enough and it will ever remain the most treasured definition of me.
one day I may accumulate amazing titles and credentials under my name, who knows may be extremely fancy titles that many dream of but the truth be to;d for me it will be an identity crisis if these titles and identities overshadow the one that matters most that above all ...."I am a believer in Jesus" the rest can wait this one is enough. He gave me an identity- a solid and a firm identity.
And not just that with this identity came a great sense of significance oozing out from a personal relationship or association with Him- a joy forevermore was born and a hope, yes a hope - a hope that does not disappoint even beyond the grave- beyond this short sojourn called life.
3. Once I raised my white flag and surrendered to Him, and He became my master with it came the marvelous beauty of being guided by Him. I acknowledged that I am'weak' to lead myself that I am bound to make uncountable errors and that I am limited in knowledge, mastery of things and that I am insufficient in many ways. and so with this knowledge of myself I surrendered to Him, you see unlike me He is all knowng, all sufficient and all too powerful and not and never limited in any way like me and my fellow human beings. And He willingly took the mantle to lead, to direct and to guide, following Him is however not easy but it is very possible and I still and will always put effort to willingly and by His grace follow Him, it is worth it. I will everyday endeavor to follow as He lead and I love it this way. You see-.... I am not the master of my fate nor the captain of my soul- Jesus is.
4. This one makes my Iris to expand and here it is.... You obviously know that an empty life is just bad no romantic words can be used to describe it period. A life may seem successful from the outside but deep inside the one living it knows it is an empty life even if it is under the praise of international media houses and Cameras- he or she knows it is still the act of chasing after the wind- it is just draining. THis scenario is only sorted out by Him and He Has been sorting me out again and again. We all know that a creature findeth not its purpose unles though its creator since Him alone knows why He created it.. And what makes my Iris expand is that ... In Him ...'My dreams have found a purpose, my future is in His hands. This life would have no meaning if it was not for Him'
5. And finally what makes me rejoice in Him most is that He is not yet done with me yet.... the molding of me continues and the refining goes on. I remember when I passionately prayed that all my challenges may disappear all at once.... did they?... No, instead He instead assured me of even more fierce challenges and that I should brace myself for them since they were on the way following each other. The romantic side of the story being that He will use them to mold me to a wonderful son that He desire and that will glorify Him in all that I do. I know too well that I am not yet there and I am just so glad and thankful that He is not done with me yet... The molding continues, the refining goes on, till I reflect His nature.
My heart is filled with gratitude for what He Has done for me and for the many people He Has brought my way that have and continues to be a blessing ....
So Happy to turn 24 Years
And with all that I am and with all that I have I give thanks unto Him.
George Thuo,
